India: Asteria's A400 Unmanned Aerial System receives DGCA Certification


Asteria Aerospace announced that it’s flagship multi-rotor product, A400 Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) has been granted provisional certification from India’s statutory body – the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The certification of the A400 is a significant addition to Asteria’s suite of DGCA certified products, adding to the previous certification granted for micro class A200 UAS.

Classed as a mini-sized UAV, the A400 weighs in a little under 3.5kg and is capable of vertical takeoff and landing. The A400 comes with an HD video camera payload, a flight time of 40 minutes, and an operational range of 5km radius, specifications that are ideally suited for the more demanding needs of commercial and enterprise customers. All communication between the A400 and the Ground Control Station is encrypted with the industry-grade AES 128-bit protocol, providing safety and security for the A400 and the necessary flight telemetry data.

Drone startup TropoGo collaborates with Avianco Technologies - CRN - India


TropoGo, founded by Sandipan Sen, a Deep-Tech drone start-up has partnered with Avianco Technologies Pvt Ltd to offer integrated Risk & Insurance services to Avianco Customers.

Drones are Digital 4.0 technologies and the adoption has greatly increased primarily because of the perceived benefits across multiple sectors like Agriculture, Survey, Security and Healthcare to start with. Technology: Amazon rolls out AWS Snowcone for portable, ruggedized edge computing


Amazon rolls out AWS Snowcone for portable, ruggedized edge computing. Snowcone is part of lineup of AWS Snow edge-computing devices designed to collect data from remote, disconnected locations, process the data locally, and then move the data to an AWS data center. The rugged AWS Snowcone measures 9' x 6' x 3' and weighs just 4.5 pounds, making it small enough for a backpack or mailbox.

While many edge-computing environments are connected to either the Internet or a 4G/5G wireless network, some are not because of capacity or access limitations, for example. These environments may capture and process data, but until they send it up to the network, it's of little use. With AWS' Snow devices, enterprises can move the data to an AWS data center either by shipping the device to AWS or using AWS DataSync to send the data to AWS over the network.

Snowcone features two CPUs, 4GB of memory, 8TB of storage, and USB-C power (or optional battery). AWS says it can run in the roughest of remote sites – such as oil rigs, first-responder vehicles, military operations, and factory floors – as well as remote offices, hospitals, or movie theaters.

Agritech: Drone-delivered soap bubbles could help pollinate flowers, a research study shows


Bee population is dwindling due to consistent use of chemical pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and others, having adverse impact on natural pollination and consequent agricultural productivity. As pollinators, bees are hard to beat. Still, that hasn’t prevented researchers from working on a high-tech alternative: drones that blow soap bubbles to transport pollen to a flower.

One advantage of using bubbles rather than feather brushes is that the bubbles require a lot less pollen. A feather brush, the researchers found, applies about 1800 milligrams of pollen to each flower, whereas the bubbles needed only 0.06 milligrams. That means farmers would have to gather far less pollen before manually pollinating their flowers, if they’re adding it to a soap solution.

Still, I prefer to add beehives (we can purchase them) by keep them at unreachable heights in your agricultural fields, rather than using drones with pollen bubble guns to pollinate our plants and vegetables.

Wireless drone chargers startup WiBotic raises $5.7 million

Wireless drone charging solutions provider WiBotic announced it has raised $5.7 million, which it will use to expand its product offerings and enhance customer support. CEO Ben Waters says the plan is to grow WiBotic’s sales team over the next few months as the company advances various internal hardware and software engineering efforts.

WiBotic’s kits consist of four components: a transmitter, an antenna coil, an onboard charger unit, and a receiver antenna coil. The transmitter uses any available power to generate a high-frequency wireless signal, which travels through a coaxial cable to the antenna coil, where it produces electrical and magnetic waves. When a drone comes within range, the transmitter recognizes its charger unit and receiver coil and automatically ramps up to deliver the right amount of energy — through air, water, or other non-conductive materials.

WiBotic’s wireless charging systems have attracted companies in warehousing, logistics, hospitality and service, security, energy, and defense. Regardless of sector, the systems can be placed throughout worksites to allow fleets of drones to land and charge quickly. They can be embedded into drone garages or hangars, and they’re resistant to dirt, water, and corrosive materials. On the power optimization side, they support fleet-wide battery status monitoring and smart charging routines, eliminating the need for human monitoring.
