Ottawa-based Nuvyyo has raised a $6 million CAD Series B round of financing, to be used to accelerate the production of its Tablo Over-the-Air (OTA) digital video recorder (DVR), which allows consumers to browse, record, and stream television programs without the need for program subscriptions.

“Use of Over-the-Air TV antennas is up more than 50 percent over the past eight years as traditional pay-TV providers consistently report record quarterly subscriber losses,” said Grant Hall, CEO of Nuvyyo. This capital will help them meet the increased demand for Tablo DVRs via both retail and direct-to-consumer channels.

Unlike satellite, cable, or Internet protocol television, OTA TV is a type of broadcasting in which a television signal is transmitted by radio waves from an Earth-based transmitter of a television station to a TV receiver with an antenna. Its OTA DVRs allow users to watch and record free OTA television to move away from using cable and satellites for their television experience. Startup Ideas: The biggest problem of late payments faced by Indian MSMEs can be turned into an opportunity

Payment delays have for long been a huge problem for India Inc. An EY report in 2018 estimated that Rs 1.8 lakh crore was trapped as receivables. But it is the medium, small and micro enterprises (MSMEs) who feel the pinch the most. Media reports estimate that large corporations owe Rs 40,000 crore and PSUs Rs 48, 000 crore to MSMEs.

According to a recent report by Zinnov, India has over 75 million small and medium businesses that contribute 40% to the gross domestic product, employ 180 million people and contribute 52% of India’s $535 billion exports. Yet, with limited financial means, MSMEs often swing between life and death. Due to corona virus effect, many MSMEs may shut down shops and others either may become bankrupt or continue to work at a lower capacity than that in pre-covid times.

“The whole concept of slow payments is a huge global issue,” Previse co-founder and CEO Paul Christensen tells Forbes in an interview. “It is a huge global opportunity that no-one has cracked yet. Given the problem is so big, why has no-one cracked it yet? Everyone has tried to solve the problem using process, and changing process at large organisations is really hard.”

Startup Ideas - There are many FinTech opportunities in India to aggregate and channelize financial savings

In India, there is a tremendous scope for startups in enabling access to small investors for investing in corporate debt, govt bonds, gilts, gilt funds and liquid funds, which earn better post-tax returns than fixed deposits, with low or nil risk and also with negligible or nil entry and exit load.

Similarly, many Indian #SMEs don't know how to manage their treasury operations, as they cannot afford a specialist to do the same. So, startups can step-in as a treasury manager and help #SMEs to manage their short term surplus money more efficiently, by investing these short term funds in suitable government debt, gilts and securities and private gilt and liquid funds.
