After Self-Driving Cars, Amazon Now Aims For Space


Amazon's AWS, the cloud-computing branch of the e-commerce giant has unveiled a new space business segment. Called the Aerospace and Satellite Solutions business segment, it aims to bring AWS services and solutions into the space enterprise. With a dedicated unit to accelerate innovation in the global aerospace and satellite industry, the company has proclaimed its interest in driving innovation in space.

Being one of the most comprehensive cloud platforms, AWS is uniquely positioned to help make the flow of space data more accessible, cost-effective and actionable. For instance, working with AWS, companies can provide near real-time geospatial maritime intelligence, drive the rapid growth of the geospatial industry, increase the scalability of operations, and more.

Space has become the new area of interest as more and more private companies are venturing into this diverse segment. Reports have emerged that Amazon.com will purchase self-driving startup Zoox for " more than $1.2B" with exact details of the deal not disclosed. Amazon says they plan to have Zoox realize its vision of passenger transport (robotaxi) service, which I will dub " AMAZOOX."

Indian Ecommerce: Amazon Increases Its Kirana Bet, Introduces Digital Storefronts


Global ecommerce giant Amazon has been trying hard to create a mark in India’s unorganised retail market despite continued war-cries from retailers for vying the market share. In the latest attempt, Amazon has launched Smart Stores.

Under this, the company is providing physical stores with software to maintain a digital log of the inventory they have in the shop and supplying them with a QR code. The company claims that more than 10K shops, ranging from mom and pop stores to big retail chains, including Big Bazaar, MedPlus and More Supermarkets, have deployed the company’s system.

The Smart Store feature allows a local shop to display its products on the Amazon app, allowing users to discover products, read reviews, evaluate offers while in the store or from anywhere using the app. After selecting the products they wish to buy their checkout with Amazon Pay, they can avail the option of UPI, balance, credit or debit cards.
