Founded in 2014, Avataar.Me leverages mobile #AR technology to offer highly immersive #3D extended reality (#XR) and #AR product discovery experiences for companies engaged in digital and digitally-influenced commerce. With clients that include Amazon and BMW, and partnerships with Instagram and Facebook, Avataar.Me claims to provide a 150 percent uplift in click through rate (#CTR), if #2D modes of advertising such as text, images and video were to be replaced with their offerings.

Among these, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) were mentioned. Zuckerberg said that such technologies are about delivering a sense of presence.

Startup Technology: Physiotherapy could be done at home using virtual reality


Virtual reality could help physiotherapy patients complete their exercises at home successfully thanks to researchers at WMG, University of Warwick, who managed to combine VR technology with 3-D motion capture.

Currently prescribed physiotherapy often requires patients to complete regular exercises at home. Outside of the clinic, patients rarely receive any guidance other than a leaflet of sketches or static photographs to instruct them how to complete their exercises. This leads to poor adherence, with patients becoming anxious about not getting the exercise right, or simply getting bored by the repetitiveness of the movements.

Key takeaway:

They found that participants struggled to keep in time if only visual information was present. However, when they added realistic footstep sounds in addition to the visual information, the more realistic multisensory information allowed participants to accurately follow the virtual avatar.

DeepTech Startups: Cambridge-based VividQ raises another €2.8 million to bring 3D holography to everyday electronics


VividQ, a UK DeepTech company specialising in 3D holography, has today announced raising an additional €2.8 million of funding and closing its oversubscribed seed round. The extra funding came from FLUXUNIT - OSRAM Ventures,, the UTEC - The University of Tokyo Edge Capital and existing angel investors.

VividQ, founded in 2017, aims to transform how we view, interact and connect with the world. It brings real-time ‘computer generated holography’ #CGHH) to everyday applications, creating the most “realistic, immersive and sensational holographic experiences”. In other words, this means that holographic displays could soon be commonplace in our everyday lives, from #AR smart glasses, to in-car head-up displays (HUD).
